What is Goodbye Monopol ?

On the heels of Goodbye Monopol 1 - a successful artistic "transformation" imagined by Will Kreutz and Sumo which saw the former Monopol/Delhaize supermarket located on the Place des Alliés in Fousbann/Differdange being repainted from 27 August to 2 September 2012 by a dozen graffiti and urban artists from Luxembourg and abroad such as The Weird, Sumo, Spike, Stick and others - comes a new project aiming to give the former headquarters and warehouse of the Monopol chain located in Gasperich the same treatment...with a few twists.

This new project, with a few subtle differences to the first, will take place from 9 to 20 September 2013. Over 5,000 m2 of indoor space, over 6,000 m2 of outside space, over 130 metres of frontage, a gigantic parking lot and a first-rate 'location' require more, much more ... which is why around 30 artists, including The Weird (Nychos, Look Dxtr, Lowbros, Vidam, Frau Isa, Herr von Bias, Rookie, Cone), Jeff Soto, Rutger Termohlen, Collin Van Der Sluijs and Super A, L7M, Eyes-b, Reab, Denis Meyers, Jaune, Soner and Marco Weiten will be sharing the task of the ultimate 'transformation before demolition' armed with over 3,000 cans, rollers and latex, acrylic paint and assorted brushes and painting tools with the aim of conquering this huge space located 5 minutes away from Luxembourg's city centre...

Thanks to the kind permission of Breevast, the company that owns the site, and under the creative direction of Will Kreutz, the building will be transformed a little bit more with each passing day, culminating in a massive work of art.

Once the collaborative project has been completed, the site will host all kinds of public and private events from 1 October 2013 to 31 March 2014, at which point the site will be demolished and a unique and spectacular venue will disappear forever.

All that will remain of it will be a book and a film, thousands of photos and memories, a step by step account of the progress of the work accomplished by the artists, participants and official partners towards realizing the monumental feat of creating an (un) fortunately fleeting and extraordinary work of art...

The organizers would already like to send out their thanks to all partners and sponsors for their valuable support and assistance, for their determination and exemplary availability!

Non-exhaustive list of official partners as of 6 August 2013:

Atypical (organization), Toolbox (events management), RTL Television and Radio, Urban (food and beverage), Orange (telephony/wifi), Montana (spray cans), Fachmaart Robert Steinhäuser (colours / scaffolding / painting materials), Christian Aschman (official photographer), Nico Reding (lettering / giga prints), Surf'In (pop up skater shop), Travhydro (scaffolding)...
